The Mekhala is a collection of three elegantly restored, beautifully crafted rice barges. The barges provide the setting for overnight journeys between Bangkok and Ayutthaya – retracing the paths of former royal processions. Your journey on the Mekhala starts in Bangkok and ends in Ayutthaya / Bang Pa-in Summer Palace, or vice versa.
There are only six rooms, promising you an unparalleled sense of intimacy and personalization as you cruise the river of the Kings. Optional tours such as a guided visit to the Summer Palace and to the Ancient City of Ayutthaya, as well as transfer options are available. Our prices include a 1-night / 2-day cruise onboard the Mekhala with a delicious Thai dinner, breakfast and snacks, water, tea and coffee with meals, accommodation based on sharing a double cabin with air-conditioning and private bathroom and the service of a multi-language, well experienced crew.
The Mekhala Rice Barges are also available for charter for both, day / dinner cruises on the Chao Phraya River and overnight cruises

 Day 1 : Bangkok- Mekhala

Your excursion starts as the MEKHALA casts off around 13.30 and heads up the Chao Phraya River, passing the magnificent Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn and observing the way of rural life along the river. Arriving at Pathum Thani in the afternoon, you will visit a fresh market where local people shop for food, fresh produce and a variety of Thai sweets. At sunset, the MEKHALA will dock at Wat Kai Tia, a Buddhist temple located in a tranquil rural village. An exquisite candlelit dinner of mouth-watering Thai cuisine will be served on the deck. You will spend the night on board the boat, in your air-conditioned cabin.

Day 2 : Mekhala- Ayuthaya

We start the day by cruising to a small village of Baan Saladang, an aged-old Mon community who migrated from Burma to this area in the early 19th century. The villagers here have successfully maintained their traditional life style, customs and natural surroundings. You will also see a collection of well-preserved typical Thai houses in this charming village. Afterwards, you can partake of a delicious breakfast. Later in the morning, you will disembark and travel to Bang-Pa-In. Built in the 17th century, this palace complex showcases a collection of different styles of buildings arrange amongst beautifully landscaped gardens with an inspiring water setting. The mansions reflect Chinese, Swiss, Khmer, Thai and European styles of architecture. You will disembark nearby at approx. 10h00.

VIEW AYUTHAYA – BANGKOK 
Day 1 : Ayuthaya – Mekhala
The boat sets sail around 2 p.m. from the pier near Bang – Pa – In Palace. Now is the time to relax and enjoy watching the rural life along the “River of Kings”. You will stop for a visit at the small village of Baan Saladang, an aged-old Mon community which migrated from Burma to this area in the early 19th century. The villagers here have successfully maintained their traditional life style, customs and natural surroundings. You will also see a collection of well-preserved typical Thai houses in this charming village.

Soon after sunset, the MEKHALA will dock at Wat Kai Tia, a local Buddhist temple set in a tranquil village. An exquisite candlelit dinner of mouth-watering Thai delicacies awaits you on the deck. You will spend the night on board the boat in your air-conditioned cabin.

Day 2 : Mekhala – Bangkok

Today, we will leave the pier early for a visit to the morning market in Pathum Thani. You will observe the way of life of local people as they shop for food and fresh produce.

Afterwards, you will enjoy a delicious breakfast on board. The boat will continue cruising down the river to Bangkok. You will be able to take in the sights, marveling at the magnificent Grand Palace and the Temple of Dawn along the way. You will arrive in Bangkok in the late morning.
